The Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention decided to continue with the implementation of the GMP (GMP – Global Monitoring Programme) and to promote its long-term execution, continuing with the monitoring of the selected matrices: human breast milk, air and water, in order to make future studies possible.
The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity to implement a Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) for POPs and to create the conditions for sustainable monitoring of the 23 POPs in each region. This project is expected to last four years and shall:
- Ensure the conditions for the successful implementation of the project;
- Develop capabilities and generate data based on the analysis of basic abiotic matrices (air and water);
- Develop capacity and generate data on the analysis of basic biotic matrices (human milk);
- Assess existing analytical capacity and strengthen national monitoring for POPs; and
- Ensure conditions for sustainable monitoring of POPs.
Target
Build capacity and generate data on the analysis of core abiotic matrices (air and water).
Activity
Two years of passive air sampling and water sampling.
Target
Build capacity and generate data on the analysis of basic biotic matrices (human milk).
Activity
One round of human milk sampling.
Target
Evaluate existing analytical capabilities and strengthen national POPs monitoring.
Activity
Two rounds of inter-laboratory evaluations and national samples.
